While filling a tank is within the regulations, it will still remain in the ground. The advisable way would be to remove it completely. Once a tank is removed and the steel recycled, it’s just gone forever.

If your stapped for cash right now, and you have a tank that you need removed, the NJ DEP has great news for you. Assuming you make less than $250,000 a year (I think that if your on this page, you qualify), the DEP will help you out with the cost of the job. You just have to come up with $250 for filing fees. Pretty good, especially considering that the cost to remove the old tank could run $2000.

How To Know If Your Contractor Is Legit

Recently, a contractor in North Jersey was shut down by the DEP for doing work without licence. This is a nightmare for the poor fellow who was having the work done. Hopefully, he will be able to recoup on the money he paid, but he still needs to have the work done over, and go over the whole job again.
This could have been avoided. Always check your contractors license. This could be done simply by going to the DEP website, and seeing if the company is listed.
