Underground oil tanks can be a liability
According to American Petroleum Institute underground tanks last about 20 years. Because they are out of sight, they can cause damage without your knowledge. This damage could occur over years of use. They may leak into your property, contaminating the soil and groundwater. Water can also leak into your tank, reducing the usable capacity of the tank, and fouling the burner on your furnace. Underground oil tanks can also be a problem when it comes time to sell your home. This is especially true for older homes that have been converted to gas service, since the old tank was probably left in the ground when the conversion occurred.
Tips:
When you have to know what's going on under your tank, you want someone who knows what their doing. We always order mark out, and leave your property neat and clean.
If your building or buying a new house you need an environmental expert. A previously buried tank might bring along more damage with it than your house is worth!
If your selling your home
you want to make sure your covered. A buyer will definitely check the tank, but with whom?
